The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy (MOEE) announced Saturday that it is studying the possibility of attracting investments from the Egyptian private sector to finance the fourth stage of the Grand Inga Dam, located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The announcement came from undersecretary of the ministry Mohamed Osman, who stated that the fourth stage would bring the total capacity to 47,000 MW.

An electricity connection between the Egyptian High Dam and the Grand Igna Dam will be constructed, the government official explained. He added that this connection would help meet Egypt’s energy needs.

On Monday, Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker said that the electricity deficit reached approximately 6,180 MW and is resulting in power outages for periods exceeding five hours daily.
