Egypt has sent a military plane carrying aid to Sudan as part of relief efforts for victims of recent floods in the country, said a foreign ministry statement Wednesday.

On board the plane were tents, blankets, food supplies and other forms of shelter relief.

In a 9 September statement, the United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs estimated that over 257,000 people have been affected by the flooding, and over 30,000 homes destroyed or damaged.

The foreign ministry confirmed that the aid transported to Sudan is part of the commitment between the two countries.

The ministry added: “The confirmation of such assistance comes [to show the] depth of relations and the deeply ingrained historical ties between the two countries.”
