The parties Strong Egypt and Al-Tayyar Al-Masry will officially merge into one party under the leadership of former presidential candidate Abdel Moneim Abuel Fottouh, the two parties announced at a press conference on Wedneday.

“Revolutionary political action alongside party action is our way to build a sound democratic life and to achieve the goals of the revolution … [we are] calling for our cooperation together to work for our beloved nation, Egypt,” the Strong Egypt Party wrote in a statement after the conference.

Both parties are to merge under the name Strong Egypt Party.

The statement added that the dispersion of “the entities and individuals that represent the revolution” and the “lack of a true alternative” led them to the decision, “hopeful to end the age of mistakes and dispersion.”

The Strong Egypt Party was initially founded by Aboul-Fottouh in 2012 before the first round of parliamentary elections after the 25 January Uprising.

A Strong Egypt party representative told Daily News Egypt that the party remains unsure whether the party will participate in the upcoming round of parliamentary elections.
