The Supreme Electoral Commission (SEC) decided Wednesday to form provincial committees for the upcoming parliamentary elections in governorates across Egypt, according to state news-agency MENA.
The commission decided that each provincial committee will be headed by the president of the preliminary court of each province.
Commission spokesman Medhat Idris said the provincial committees are responsible for accepting membership requests for the elections. They will commence their work after the election dates have been announced by the SEC, which has recently invited voters to verify their details on the electoral role in time for voting.
The parliamentary elections are the third step in Egypt’s roadmap following the ratification of the constitution and presidential elections.
Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb said in September that parliamentary elections are expected to occur by the end of this year.
Mehleb added that logistical and administrative preparations are being made for the upcoming parliamentary elections, including preparations of the parliament’s building.
