Lawyers for the Muslim Brotherhood have been informed a recent British Prime Minister’s review has cleared them of ties to terrorism, the Brotherhood’s UK press office said in a statement Thursday.

Sources close to the review said “there is no evidence of links between the Muslim Brotherhood and acts of terrorism”, the Brotherhood added in the statement.

The statement came in response to a report released by the Sunday Telegraph on 20 October. The newspaper, the Brotherhood said, “attempted to force a reversal in the Review’s original findings and besmirch the name of the Muslim Brotherhood and their resident members in the UK.”

Recent leaks, which the Brotherhood call “inaccurate and misleading”, allege that recent findings of the review vilify the Brotherhood and its links to extremism.

The group claimed to have “engaged fully” with Sir John Jenkin, the British diplomat charged with creating the report and who was ambassador to several Middle Eastern countries. It added that its members at the highest level all over the world have been provided with access to the review.

The Muslim Brotherhood has engaged fully with Jenkin’s review and provided access to its members at the highest level possible all over the world.

The Islamist group, banned for decades in Egypt, has more recently been one of the main targets of regime crackdown on dissidents. This has been especially since the military ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi who had emerged from within the group.

Egyptian authorities declared the Brotherhood a “terrorist” group last December.
