President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi ordered the government to develop an urgent national plan to prevent road accidents on Wednesday, after a crash earlier in the day in Beheira left 18 dead and 18 injured.
Al-Sisi ordered the Specialized Council for Community Development to develop a plan through consulting experts and researchers, along with coordination with all relevant state institutions, reported state-owned Al-Ahram.
Al-Sisi asked for a report from the council within 15 days.
Al-Sisi called for tougher sanctions on violators of traffic law and their strict application, especially on highways.
The fatal crash on Wednesday involved a school bus, a lorry and a car on the Egypt–Alexandria road in Beheira governorate.
