The value of “protesto” court cases reached EGP 128.7m, according to an annual bulletin released by CAPMAS on Wednesday.
A “protesto” is a case that contests the non-payment of any kind of bills on time, whether between individuals, companies or banks.
The number of non–payment cases reached 66,451 cases in 2013 compared to 99,930 case in 2012; a decrease of 33,479 cases or 33.5%.
The total debt of the “protesto” cases that have been resolved reached EGP 109.1m in 2013, compared to EGP 109.3m in 2012; a decrease of EGP 0.3m or 0.23%.
CAPMAS reported that the value of the “protesto” cases that have not been resolved reached EGP 650.8m in 2013, compared to EGP 953.1m in 2012; a decrease of EGP 302.3m or 31.7%.
Assuit was the governorate ranked first in the total number of “protesto” cases that have been resolved, followed by Beheira governorate and Sohag governorate.
Cairo the governorate ranked first in the number of unresolved “protesto” cases, Sharqeya, and then Giza governorates.
The report also detailed 77 cases of bankruptcy filed, which amounted to EGP 24.8m.
