The New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) will issue seven tenders for development projects in different Egyptian cities, the authority announced on Monday. Companies registered with the Egyptian Federation for Construction and Building Contractors will be competing for the projects.
The authority’s vice president Kamal Fahmy said that four tenders will be issued the by the local authorities in New Qena, while two will be issued in New Tayba, which is located in the Red Sea governorate.
The last project tender will be issued by the local authorities of Sadat City, which is one of the largest industrial cities in Egypt.
In April, the authority announced that bids for the implementation of over 50,000 new residential units are currently being issued. The units are as part of a social housing programme announced by the government in July 2012.
The government expects the national housing project to provide 1m residential units and for construction to last five years, from fiscal year (FY) 2012/13 to FY 2016/17; an average of 200,000 units are expected to be constructed per year.
