Nuclear states “should implement their obligations under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT),” Egypt stated at the Vienna conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
The statement added that nuclear states should develop a time frame for achieving nuclear disarmament during the upcoming NPT conference in May 2015 to ensure “preservation of the credibility of the NPT”.
The Egyptian ambassador representing Egypt at the conference confirmed that Egypt has supported the “goals of nuclear disarmament,” since the issuance of the first resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
He added that Egypt has committed itself to global nuclear disarmament within the framework of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
