EGP 5,000 will be disbursed to each family of the fishermen who died Sunday in a collision at sea, according to Ministry of Social Solidarity Undersecretary in South Sinai Fouad Abdel-Azim.
A Jeddah-bound Kuwaiti container ship struck an Egyptian fishing vessel in the Red Sea at 12am Sunday. Of the 40 fishermen aboard, thirteen were killed, thirteen others were injured, and the remaining 14 are still missing, according to a representative from the South Sinai governorate’s operations centre.
The governor of Daqheliya, from where the fishermen came, said that an amount of EGP 2,000 would be given to those who were injured, as reported by state media.
The container ship is currently being held by the authorities for further investigation, according to state-run MENA.
