Militants shot and killed a police conscript driving a prisoner transport vehicle in the Sidi Gaber district of Alexandria on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Ministry of Interior.
The prisoner inside the vehicle was set to be released, according to the Ministry of Interior spokesperson.
In a separate incident, militants opened fire on Monday on an Armed Forces officer in El-Marg, in north-east Cairo, according to an army statement Monday.
The officer was heading to work when militants on a motorbike fired multiple shots at him. He was transferred to a military hospital, having suffered several gunshot wounds.
Militants have been targeting police and army personnel since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in June 2013, with the vast majority of attacks taking place in Sinai. Drive-by shooting, however, have occurred throughout the country.
Two Armed Forces officers were killed and three army conscripts were injured in two separate drive-by shootings in Cairo and Qaliubiya in November.
In September, two armed men shot a policeman affiliated with the General Traffic Management in Al-Salam City while he was on his motorcycle, and a police officer was killed in a drive-by shooting in Al-Minya whilst on his way to work.
