Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim said Saturday that police and army are ready to counter “spreading cancer” ahead of the 25 January Revolution anniversary.
Ibrahim said in press statements made in Ismailia: “Brotherhood members are trying to spread like a cancer spreads in the body, but police is ready in coordination with the army to counter them and foil their satanic plans,” as quoted by state-run news agency MENA.
He reaffirmed his ministry’s readiness to secure celebrations of the fourth anniversary of the 25 January Revolution, mentioning that the “Brotherhood organisation is trying to attract groups to carry out riots during celebrations”.
The Ministry of Religious Endowments also warned of “sinful schemes” by “terrorist groups” on 25 January, in a statement released on Friday.
The statement warned particularly against the once-ruling Muslim Brotherhood, which would “work with all its strength to destabilise the country, implementing schemes to destroy the nation”, adding that the group is working in the interests of the “Zionist enemy”.
The Brotherhood has repeatedly called for protests, which occur on a near weekly basis on Fridays in several Cairo districts, in preparation for major protests to mark the fourth anniversary of the revolution that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
