An armed forces officer and two conscripts were injured following an explosion in the south of Sheikh Zuwied Tuesday. The injured were transferred to Al-Arish hospital.
A roadside bomb was planted as an army vehicle drove by while combing the area.
A similar incident took place Sunday evening as an armored vehicle passed by a roadside bomb, injuring one army officer and three conscripts.
Sinai-based militant group ‘State of Sinai’ claimed an attack on Tuesday. However, they claimed that the army vehicle was destroyed and that the army personnel died.
The group continuously posts photos of militants holding weapons, allegedly taken in the peninsula while in combat with the armed forces. The army also released photos of militants killed during army operations aiming to “ultimately eliminate terrorism”.
The peninsula has witnessed increasing insurgency since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
The army has set a counter-insurgency campaign, which intensified following the deadly 24 October attacks that left at least 30 security personnel dead.
