Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met Monday night with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Cairo in a highly anticipated visit.
Putin arrived at Cairo Airport where Al-Sisi welcomed him before heading to the Cairo Opera House to attend a special screening on the history of Egyptian-Russian relations, according to state news agency MENA.
The Russian president’s visit to Egypt will last for two days, as he and Al-Sisi will hold talks, state media reported.
Al-Sisi has developed good relations with Russia since rising to power after the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood government and president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
He has paid two visits to Russia, first as defence minister and then as elected president in 2014.
