Minor clashes erupted Monday morning in Assiut between student protesters and administrative security officials at Al-Azhar University.

A student march started from the square in front of the university and clashed with security officials trying to enter the university, according to a Students Against the Coup (SAC) statement.

The anti-government student movement said the protesting students managed to get into the university after clashing with security.

A university staff source told Daily News Egypt that the clashes left the university’s gate burning. Another gate was opened for students to enter, confirming that studies are ongoing despite the clashes and the march.
