General Mohamed Metwali, director of the Salloum border crossing, stated Monday that 33,385 Egyptians have crossed from Libya in the past month, state media reported.
He added that in the last 24 hours, 205 Egyptians returned from Libya, with 32 cases of illegal crossing among them.
The flow of Egyptians crossing the borders from Libya saw a major increase since February, when 20 Coptic Egyptians were beheaded by “Islamic State” in Libya militants.
Egyptian forces retaliated to the beheadings through airstrikes that targeted alleged militants sites in the neighbouring country.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry has been demanding from Egyptians not to travel to Libya since the start of the year, as the turmoil in Libya has caused the security situation in Libya to majorly deteriorate.
