The preparation meetings for the Arab League’s 26th Summit began on Monday in Sharm Al-Sheikh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The meetings, which will last for four days, aim to report to ministers the recommendations and proposed decisions related to mutual Arab work. These will be in the economic and political sectors, to counter the current challenges, the ministry added in an official statement.

On Monday, a meeting for senior officials on the economic and the social councils was held. This will be followed by a meeting on Tuesday for the permanent envoys on the Arab League. Starting Wednesday, there will be two ministerial meetings, the first for economy and trade ministers, while another on Thursday will be for foreign ministers.

“The summit comes after a successful Economic Summit which exposed the massive interest in helping Egypt develop,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdelatty in the statement.

The summit will tackle the common challenges face in Arab countries and its national security reflected in creating new conflict zones such as Syria, Iraq and Libya, he added.

The Arab Summit is set to take place on 28 and 29 March. It will tackle the developments in the Arab region and Egypt’s role in conflict resolution, which has an impact on Arab national security.
