The Ministry of Housing will provide street vendors with cheaply rented booths in new housing projects within various governorates, in addition to all the required services, announced Housing Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday.
This decision arrived in attempts to reduce the phenomenon of street vendors in these areas. It was made during the minister’s tour of ‘citizens are priority for care’ housing project in 6th of October City.
The minister added small commercial markets will be provided for street vendors in order to protect the project’s area from turning into slums.
Madbouly said that providing services for low-income and first-priority citizens is the housing ministry’s main concern in the coming period.
“The New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) has provided many of services for the project, who are homeless. In addition, a school for primary education will be opened during the next academic year,” added Madbouly. “The first health unit and police station was built for the project’s citizens along with a community garden.”
Madbouly noted that the total cost of the services that have been provided to the region has reached approximately EGP 15.7m, including the cost of the school which amounted to EGP 9m. The cost of the commercial market is EGP 4m and the cost of the infant garden amounted to EGP 1.5m.
The Minister of Housing visited Economic Summit projects on Sunday to hasten the paving of roads and the provision of utilities in these lands. The minister inspected the roads surrounding the southern city centre project “Money and Business Center”.
In November 2014, the minister of housing Madbouly had announced the implementation of the “‘citizens are priority for care’ project within social housing projects in various governorates. One apartment within the housing project will be built on an area of 55 meters. The rental housing project targets low-income and homeless citizens. Apartments which are 63 meters will be provided to large families.
Madbouly noted that 2496 housing units has been allocated for rent with monthly fees of EGP 125, for a period of seven years that can be renewed.
The project also houses families who’ve lost their homes due to poor construction, including citizens from Qalaet El-Kabsh area in Sayda Zeinab city and Duwaiqa town.
