Sixteen people were killed and seven others were injured following a collision on the Sohag-Red Sea road, according to a statement released on the Sohag government’s official page.
Involved in the crash were three cars including a micro-bus and two trucks.
All the injured, which include two children, have been transferred to the hospital. The Sohag governor announced a state of emergency in all hospitals to receive the injured following the accident.
Road accidents have been a frequent occurrence in Egypt. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) published in 2012, 12,000 lives are lost each year on Egypt’s roads due to car accidents.
