The evacuation process of Egyptian citizens in Yemen started Wednesday, either through border crossings or by sea.

There are approximately 6,000-7,000 Egyptians currently in Yemen, which has recently witnessed troubles.

Egypt coordinated with Oman and Saudi Arabia to facilitate the return of Egyptian nationals from Yemen. This comes in light of the ongoing crisis in Yemen, said a foreign ministry statement on Monday.

The movement of airline flights between Yemen and Egypt has been suspended since Saudi Arabia announced last week the launch of airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The next day, Egypt announced its support to Saudi Arabia and noted that “political and military support” will be provided and “if necessary” ground troops as well.
