Metito UAE signed an agreement with the Rwandan Water and Sanitation Authority to cover the drinking water needs of the Rwandan capital, Kigali. Metito Egypt, Regional Representative of the parent company in Africa, will be implementing the project, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement Sunday.
The Rwandan Minister of State in Charge of Energy, Water and Sanitation, Kamayirese Germaine, and other Rwandan officials attended the signing ceremony, as well as the Egyptian Ambassador to Rwanda Namira Negm. Also in attendance were the CEO and executive director of Metito Company Moataz Ghandour, and a number of board members from both Egyptian and Emirati sides.
The project will provide 40,000 cubic metres of potable water to the Water and Sanitation Authority, a figure that can be increased to 60,000, in a deal worth $55m in investments. The project will be implemented through a public and private sector partnership, which will be the first partnership of its kind in Rwanda.
“Rwanda is focusing on achieving a durable economic development and on providing an infrastructure that meets with Rwanda’s needs and ambitions through the partnership between public and private sectors,” said Germaine. She also expressed her happiness about the UAE-Egyptian joint investments in Rwanda.
Metito is scheduled to build and operate a water treatment plant on the Nyabarongo River, part of the upper headwater of the Nile, which will contribute significantly to improving the living standards of Rwandan citizens.
