With summer just a stone’s throw away, Cairo’s crowded streets sometimes reach unbearable limits. Yet its unique tastes never fail at adding colours of joy for citizens. A simple walk in  Downtown Cairo or nearby places can lead to street vendors standing with large glass-canisters clutched to their chests on one side, and a stand of glass cups on the other, to sell the tastiest sweetest juices.

Metal belts are used to create their own unique rhythm, as a simple way to attract people to the vendors’ cold, mouth-watering juice.

Prices range from EGP 1.5 to EGP 3, according to the area. Juices are considered suitable for people of all social backgrounds to drink all day long. Some would have several cups to quench their thirst.

A day spent with 12-year- old juice sellers, near Tahrir Square, was an experience that deserves to be shared with others.

As their day begins at noon, they start icing the juice from early morning. “The juice jar can fill around 30 cups and finishes within approximately an hour,” said Mohammed, one of the boys selling the juice.

Some sellers work only during the summer season to gain enough money to last the rest of the year. Others make sure to be around most months of the year, as it’s their way of living.
