The Board Games Competition was hosted and organised by the Corporate Governance Club (CGC), the first Egyptian student-based academic club that is dedicated to the dissemination of corporate governance principles and best practices among students. The game was founded in 2010 by Ahmed Abdel Meguid, Associate Professor, Chair of the Department of Accounting and Director of the MBA programmes at the American University in Cairo (AUC) and Mohamed El-Abhar, founding student president.

The club organises an annual ‘Board Games’ competition, where students simulate a board meeting and students get the chance to take on the role of various constituents of a board of director’s including: CEO, chairperson, major shareholder, independent director, and board secretary.

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) told Daily News Egypt that it is the sponsoring partner for the ‘Board Games’ competition, and provides technical expertise for all of the board games’ activities on top of financial donations.

PwC is an active advocate of corporate governance and raising its awareness in Egypt and the wider region. Nabil Diab, Risk Assurance Partner at PwC Egypt, has been supporting the competition since its inception.

The competition took place over one month, where students had to attend two preliminary workshops to learn more about corporate governance principles and practices and then competed in two rounds of fierce competition. The closing ceremony and announcement of the winners took place on 6 March.
