Egypt’s ambassador to Rwanda Namira Negm met Rwandan Interior Minister Moussa Fadel Hariremana to discuss various aspects of cooperation between Egypt and Rwanda in the fields of police and security.
Negm put forward the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Egypt and Rwanda in police and security fields, which Rwanda is in need of. These include crime scene investigation, evidence laboratories, securing prisons, prisoner rehabilitation, police dissolution of riots, organising and securing elections, and the fight against terrorism and extremism.
Hariremana thanked the Egyptian government on the programmes and training courses offered for Rwandan police in security and police studies.
He also expressed his desire to intensify cooperation and hold further training courses in other subjects, such as the fight against corruption and terrorism and extremist ideologies. He also said he was looking to enhance cooperation between civil society organisations in Egypt with their Rwandan counterparts.
Negm discussed with Hariremana methods to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in the suggested areas.
Since President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi came into office, Egypt has been expanding its foreign relations worldwide, including efforts to ameliorate ties with African countries. The issue of Nile water has been a top priority in Egypt’s recent foreign policy.
