A police officer was arrested in Cairo Monday for irreparably damaging a driver’s eye during a quarrel over an ‘improper’ inspection.
The police officer stopped the driver at a checkpoint in the north-eastern Cairo district of Hadayek Al-Qubba, and started to inspect him. This led to a quarrel, in which the officer hit the driver in the face, causing severe injury to the driver’s eye, state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported.
The prosecution ordered the officer’s detention for four days, pending investigations on charges of using excessive force and causing a permanent disability.
