Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour inaugurated Electrolux Group’s newest factory producing household appliances in the 10th of Ramadan City on Sunday, according to a statement.

The factory is landed on 60,000 sqmand has a production capacity of 600,000 cookers per year, as a first phase. It is planned that this figure will, in future, increase to 1m annually.

The factory targets transforming Egypt into a regional centre of manufacturing household appliances, said Abdel Nour.

Electrolux is a lead company in this industry, selling more than 50m appliances annually in more than 150 markets worldwide. This forms total revenues amounting to EGP 100bn in 2014. With 61,000 employees, the company adds huge value to the Egyptian economy, Abdel Nour said.

Moreover, the factory is considered a huge technological breakthrough, and an important quality leap in the field of manufacturing cookers, Electrolux CEO Ahmed Al-Bakry said.

He added that the new generation of Zanussi cookers, currently manufactured, are characterised by high quality, easy use and energy saving capabilities. This reflects the extent of Electrolux’s commitment to fulfil the various needs of its audience of consumers in Egypt and the Middle East and Africa.

Al-Bakry also confirmed that the new generation of Zanussi cookers conforms with the specifications and requirements of the Egyptian General Authority for Standards and Quality (EOS), and the process of obtaining all the required quality certificates in the Middle East and Africa.

With this new factory, Electrolux investments in Egypt total EGP 3.5bn, Al-Bakry said, noting that the company is seeking to reinforce its advanced place in the Egyptian market in manufacturing household appliances.
