Eleven died and at least eleven others were injured in a road crash on Sunday in Hurghada when a bus overturned,  state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

The accident is the worst in weeks in a country notorious for its dire road conditions and a lack of properly enforced traffic regulations.

Road crashes involving casualties are common in Egypt with thousands of deaths each year in such accidents and even more injured.

In its 2012 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) said 12,000 people die each year due to road traffic accidents, claiming that lax enforcement of the existing rules along with a lack of awareness for traffic safety leads to such a high number.
