‘State of Sinai’ claims responsibility for Rafah attack

“Islamic State” affiliates in North Sinai, known as “State of Sinai”, claimed responsibility an attack on a number of security personnel Thursday morning.

The attack targeted a military vehicle as the armed forces personnel were combing the areas of Mahdia and Masoura in Rafah.

According to the military spokesman, one officer and three conscripts were killed and three other conscripts were injured.

The militants’ statement however didn’t provide claims of a death toll.

The statement read that three checkpoints were targeted in Al-Sadot, Al-Mawasin and Al-Masoura. Two military vehicles were targeted in Al-Sadot and Al-Masoura checkpoint. Al-Sadot attack left all the

security personnel inside the vehicle either dead or injured, according to the group’s statement.The third attack on Al-Mawasin left one conscript dead.

The military spokesman had announced on separate occasions that the armed forces are in full control over North Sinai despite ongoing insurgency.

The insurgency has been ongoing for more than two years since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
