The Arab League welcomed on Friday the “Declaration of Cairo” that was signed on Thursday by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Saudi Defence Minister Prince Mohamed Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Seoud.
The document reinforces the strategic alliance between the two countries, whilst also enhancing mutual cooperation on six different levels, notably in the military, investment, trade, politics, culture and media sectors.
Arab League Secretary General Nabil El-Araby referred to the agreement as constituting a major step in the development of bilateral relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
El-Araby further noted that the talks held between the two countries, and the agreement to adopt the joint Arab force, will positively reflect on the upcoming meeting of Arab defence and foreign ministers on 27 August.
Last March, the Arab League agreed to form a joint Arab force with the aim of defending Arab nations against terrorism.
Egypt was one of those countries who agreed to back Saudi Arabia in the airstrikes launched against Heath rebels in Yemen, with the aim of “restoring legitimacy”.
