An Italian light aircraft made an emergency landing late Sunday outside the runway of the Hurghada airport, due to a malfunction in one of the aircraft engines.
The two pilots on board were quickly transferred to the hospital, and were in a good health condition, according to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Sunday.
The aircraft was heading towards Medina, Saudi Arabia from Larnaca, Cyprus, passing through Hurghada to refuel. The aircraft pilot reported the engine malfunction to the Hurghada Airport control tower at 8:00 pm Sunday.
The aircraft landed on a sandy area outside the Hurghada Airport, as it was not able to reach the runway.
The airport authorities then declared a state of emergency and the Minister of Civil Aviation ordered inspectors and administrative teams to head to the landing site and investigate the technical causes of the incident.
