Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb met with Nabil Habayeb, President and CEO of General Electric (GE) Middle East, North Africa & Turkey region, and North Africa CEO Sofian Bin Tunis.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.
According to a cabinet press release, GE officials said they had other projects in Egypt besides electricity projects, including implementing 300 water desalination plants across Egypt, and projects in the health sector. They announced their interest in working in Egypt.
Mehleb thanked the GE officials on their efforts in electricity projects within the emergency plan, which resulted in securing produced power capacity that contributed to solving the electricity problems of this summer.
There will be more cooperation between GE and the Egyptian government in various fields, Mehleb said, adding that there is a trend to assign the Ministry of Electricity with the construction of the electricity hospital under the current government’s attention to the files of health and education. He noted that GE has great experience in the health sector.
“So why can’t General Electric cooperate with the Ministry of Electricity in this regard?” he said. GE officials immediately welcomed the idea, and emphasised their full support of the Ministry of Electricity in developing the electricity hospital.
Mehleb emphasised the need for more attention to be paid to the training of Egyptian engineers and technicians. He also expressed his interest in Egyptian manufacturing, stressing that the government is ready to provide full support for the company in its plans for local manufacturing.
For their part, GE officials confirmed that all of their projects in Egypt have been implemented by Egyptian construction companies. They praised the efficiency of local engineers, and emphasised their interest in training, and the allocation of funds for training.
