Mohamed Salem, Chairman of Telecom Egypt (TE), has resigned, despite attempts to convince him to remain, according to Osama Yassin, Managing Director, CEO and board member of TE.
Yassin added that he has yet to hold a meeting with the Board of Directors to discuss Salem’s resignation.
Salem took over the Board of Directors’s chairmanship after reforming the government’s representatives, who formed part of the company’s board, last May. This occurred following the removal of the company’s CEO, Mohamed El-Nawawy, following a disagreement with then-minister of communications Khaled Negm. El-Nawawy had refused to reduce rental prices for the telecommunications infrastructure to other Internet companies.
It has also emerged that there is a plan to submit mass resignations across the communications sector due to the appointment of Yasser Al-Qadi as Minister of Communications. Yassin has however denied this.
