President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi urged Egyptians abroad to cast their votes in the ongoing parliamentary elections which began on Saturday.

In his speech, Al-Sisi referred to the elections as the last merit needed in Egypt’s roadmap, and that the upcoming parliament will be an authoritative power to draft the laws needed to complete the constitution. It will reflect to the world the role of Egyptians in achieving their aspirations.

“I call on all youth with all their energy to crowd towards the ballot boxes. I call on women as well who scarified their men as martyrs to join the vote,” Al-Sisi said.

Egypt has won a two year non permanent seat in the UN Security Council on Thursday, with 179 votes out of 193.

According to Al-Sisi, the seat was won after diplomatic and political efforts.  He also expressed the importance of Egypt’s position and regional role.

Egypt will exert maximum efforts to utilise this membership in peace talks and ensure stability, he said.
