During the first round of parliamentary elections, six citizens were injured and 69 cases of illness were reported – but no deaths – across the 14 governorates during the parliamentary elections, the Ministry of Health said in an official statement Tuesday.
In Beheira, the ministry monitored one case of an incision wound and another case of suspected fracture. In Fayoum, there were three cases of injuries by live ammunition and rubber bullets after a fight erupted between two families.
The injuries in Fayoum are now being treated in the Fayoum General Hospital, and four others were released from the hospital after treatment.
A school principle in Beheira died from cardiac arrest on Sunday while monitoring the voting process for parliamentary elections and seven others were injured, according to the ministry.
Minister of Health Ahmed Emad El-Din said the afflictions vary from fainting to high blood pressure. Two were injured in Alexandria and three from Minya in Upper Egypt.
To secure the polling stations during the ongoing elections, the ministry ordered for about 3,000 ambulances to surround the voting committees across Egypt in case of emergencies.
