Bomb squads defused an improvised explosive device that was found in the vicinity of Remaya Square near a hotel in Giza on Friday. The squads used water hoses to detonate the bomb.
Minor damage was inflicted on nearby buildings when the device was detonated. Two officers were injured as well as two civilians.
Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar visited one of the hotels in the vicinity of the located explosive device. He met with some tourists during the visit, who said they felt safe, according to the ministry’s statement.
Security forces are conducting investigations to identify the suspects.
In the past week, two bombs exploded in front of a school in Kerdasa on the morning of the first day of parliamentary elections. No injuries were reported. Bomb squads reported that the two bombs were only sound bombs and did not affect the voting process.
During both elections day, unidentified objects suspected of being bombs were found in several areas and explosive experts were quick to identify and defuse the explosives.
Military as well as police forces were entrusted to secure the voting process for parliamentary elections with tight security measures applied across the governorates.
