Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi appointed Tarek Amer as governor of Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), succeeding Hisham Ramez

The new Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Tarek Amer is bothered by fake pages on Facebook attributed to him and quickly denied that he officially has any personal pages on Facebook.

Amer closed his personal account on Facebook on 17 October, four days before being appointed as new governor but over the past week, a large number of fake pages on Facebook appeared on Facebook.

One of these pages called “The Official Page of the New Governor of CBE Tarek Amer” has over 2,300 fans.

Amer quickly denied his relation to these pages and stressed that he does not make any statements or write comments or posts on social networks. His personal account was stopped shut down and what is written in his name on pages bearing his name on the social networks has nothing to do with him.

“Dear brothers and colleagues, I have closed my account on Facebook since I was entrusted to be new CBE governor; I had to open it again to caution you that there is an irresponsible person managing a page in my name,” according to a message by Tarek Amer on Facebook. “I am sorry that there is a person with these poor morals, forger, and cheating people, my friends, and my colleagues who trust me. This disregards and interferes with the supreme interests of the state; please take care. My current responsibility requires is to halt my account to preserve public interest. My best wishes to you”.

Daily News Egypt found another page on Facebook called “Lovers of Mr. Tarek Amer”. That page has 619 fans, a lot of which are workers in the National Bank of Egypt, a number of economic journalists, and those interested in banking affairs.
