“A traitor. A traitor: whoever voted for Israel,” chanted tens of activists outside the Press Syndicate Monday, in anger over Egypt’s vote for Israel’s membership in the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

The demonstration was hosted by ‘The popular committee to support the Palestinian Intifada’, and was attended by several leftist activists who chanted against Israel and the Egyptian government.

Earlier this week, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the main reason behind Egypt voting for Israeli is to support the “Arab countries’ candidate” in the UN body.

Several political parties and users expressed their anger and condemnation regarding Egypt’s vote for Israel through social media, urging that it would have been better to abstain from voting.

The activists ended the demonstration by burning the Israeli flag, while repeating nationalist chants against Zionism.
