Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, confirmed that Egypt and the EU are enhancing their relations and activating more collaboration techniques.

Mogherini is currently on a two-day trip to Egypt.

“The relations between Egypt and the EU are continuous, and it led to achieving a number of Egypt’s developmental priorities,” Shoukry said in a joint press conference. He added that the talks with Mogherini focused on Egyptian-EU relations, in addition to several regional issues, in particular the Libyan conflict.

Shoukry highlighted that the only solution to bring stability to Libya is a political process led by Libyans themselves. He added that forming a national unity government will help the country confront several challenges, including terrorism.

Shoukry and Mogherini had participated in the Friday talks in Vienna over Syria. “We also discussed the Syrian civil war, and we both think that the political solution is the way we should take in Syria,” said the minister.

They also discussed the Valletta Summit on Migration that will be held in Malta this November.
