Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is set to meet his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas Sunday to discuss the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The meeting comes within the framework of the preparations for the Arab Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Riyadh this week.

Abbas met Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Sunday and briefed him on “the latest developments in Palestine in light of provocative actions by the occupation forces”, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Abbas discussed with Shoukry the security and the humanitarian situation in Palestine. He highlighted the necessity for the international community to take responsibility and pressure Israel to implement the agreements signed with the Palestinian side, according to Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid, in a statement.

Shoukry confirmed Egypt’s full commitment to support the rights of the Palestinian people in all international forums. Abbas expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in support of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian territories and East Jerusalem have been witnessing a wave of violence since the beginning of October, which resulted in the death of dozens of Palestinians.
