Demand on medium-priced smartphones in emerging markets is continuing, therefore increasing global sales, a report by Gartner, an institution specialised in IT research, on smartphones sales in the third quarter (Q3) of 2015 revealed.
About 353m smartphones were sold around the world, 15.5% more than the corresponding period in 20 14.
According to the report, Samsung acquired the largest market share, with 23.7%, registering 83.5m devices sold in Q3 of 2015, compared to 72.9m devices during the same period in 2014.
In second place, in terms of market share, was Apple with 46m devices sold in Q3 of 2015, compared to 38.1m devices the previous year. The increase led to increasing Apple’s market share from 12.5% in Q3 of 2014, to 13.1% in the same period this year.
Meawhile, Huawei sales continued to grow to acquire third place with 27.2m devices sold, compared to 15.9m smart phones in 2014. That difference increased Huawei’s market share from 5.2% in 2014 to 7.7% by the end of Q3 of 2015.
Lenovo incurred the biggest losses among the smartphone manufacturers. Its sales declined from 21.3m sold devices in Q3 of 2014, to reach 17.4m in the period between July and September 2015. That drop decreased the company’s market share from 7% to 4.9%, putting the company in fourth place on the list.
