Leading international company Philips is considering creating new partnerships with private Egyptian companies for local manufacturing, JJ Van Douneng, CEO of Philips South Africa told Daily News Egypt.
“We are in discussions in Egypt about local manufacturing around consumer products with local private companies,” he indicated.
The company already took its first step in this direction when it partnered with home appliances producer Al Araby Group,for the launch of Philips’ first steam iron production company in Egypt.
Douneng’s statements were made on the sidelines of Philips Innovation Experience event that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, where members of the media from different countries in Africa gathered to get a glimpse of the company’s operations in South Africa and witness the company’s latest innovations in the healthcare, lighting and electronics sectors.
“Our mission is to improve the lives of 3 billion people by 2025. This is a bold and daring vision. But looking at the state of the world, it is a path worth taking,” Douneng stated at the opening of the Philips Africa Innovation Experience.
Philips has a strong relationship with Egypt in the healthcare sector, according to Douneng. He explained that, with over 150 employees, Philips works closely with private and public sectors in the country.
“Our role comes beyond supplying equipment for hospitals,” Douneng highlighted, clarifying that the company provides advisory and consulting services along with methods for improving efficiency on the site, specifying that the company has worked on several projects with the Egyptian government for enhancing efficient healthcare.
During the media tour, Philips showcased a number of products, some of which have been launched in some international markets whilst others are set to be released in the foreseen future.
Among the products that were presented to media representatives was the Minicare Acute, which is a portable device that provides blood test results in a matter of minutes. Another product was the Philips Visiq Ultrasound, which is mobile ultrasound system that provides high quality images for quick diagnostic decision making.
Several other products and applications were also introduced during the tour, none of which have been released in the Egyptian market yet, but are expected to enter the market soon.
