Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Tarek Qabil issued a decree to establish a new chamber for the manufacture of handicrafts, adding it to the list of Industrial Chambers at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
Qabil said the establishment of the chamber comes within the framework of the government’s attention to handicraft industries, which maintain the state’s national identity and heritage.
He added that the ministry will issue a decree for the establishment of the Handicrafts Industries Chamber which stipulates the formation of a committee to register these industries under the jurisdiction of the chamber.
He further noted that the membership of the chamber will be permitted for anyone who meets the conditions, and business owners and enterprises will be invited to join the chamber.
For his part, Hisham Ragab, Advisor to the Minister for Legislative Affairs, explained that Article 28 of the Constitution stipulates that the state should provide a special attention to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in all fields, noting that the establishment of this chamber comes in support of small and micro industries.
Ragab noted that the legislation department of the State Council is reviewing the draft of the decree to be approved.
Ragab pointed out the chamber includes the industries of handmade textiles, embroidery, glass and stones products, pottery, porcelain, ceramics, woodwork, metal handicrafts, carpets and handmade kilims, and jewellery.
The FEI submitted a request to the Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade to establish the Handicrafts Industries Chamber in accordance with decision 821/2010 of the Minister of Industry on regulations for the establishment of industrial chambers.
