14 countries participated in the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Grand Prix—5th Russian Federation President’s Cup, held in the Chechen capital of Grozny, Russia where Kazakh two-time Olympic Champion and four-time world champion Ilya Ilyin, 27, set two new world records.

The Russian Federation President’s Cup is an Olympic qualifying event.

Russia and Kazakhstan topped the winners’ list in the snatch (94 KG) and total (94 KG). The Russian weightlifter Adam Maligov placed first in the clean and jerk (94 KG).

Kazakh Ilya Ilyin finished first in the clean and jerk (105 KG), the snatch (105 KG) and the total (105 KG). Ilyin set world records for the clean and jerk at 105 kg and the total at 437 kg.

Russia’s Ruslan Albegov placed first in the snatch (=105 KG) and the total (+105 KG). The Czech weightlifter, Jiří Orság, won the gold medal in the clean and jerk (+105 KG).

In the woman’s competition, Russian Olga Zubova won gold medals in the snatch (75 KG), the clean and jerk (75 KG) and the total (75 KG).

The USA weightlifter American Sarah Elizabeth Robles placed first in the snatch (+75 KG), the clean and jerk (+75 KG), and the total (+75 KG).

Russia won first place in the team competition. Second and third place were won by Kazakhstan and the USA, respectively.

Chechen Republic President Ramzan Kadvrov attended the competition where a statement written by Russian President Vladimir Putin was read.
