Former minister of Communications and Information Technology Khaled Negm said in his first remarks after leaving office that several issues should be addressed further, especially developing the telecommunication infrastructure to contribute to improving communications and internet services.
Having Telecom Egypt as the only infrastructure provider means that it must provide services at fair prices to allow mobile operators and internet service providers to offer these telecommunication services to customers at high quality and favorable prices.
“Launching 4G services will provide the state with about EGP 8bn from fees of licenses,” Negm said.
The Egyptian telecommunications sector does not currently use different frequency ranges, signaling the need for more cooperation between the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and sovereign bodies to provide frequencies to mobile operators so they can improve the quality of phone calls.
Negm said that providing more frequencies will ease the launch of 4G services and improve the level of internet services while maintaining affordable prices.
