Mobile internet service see improvement in December 2015: NTRA

The internet service performance through mobile networks witnessed an improvement in December 2015.

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority’s (NTRA) quality index of surfing internet through the telecommunications networks for December 2015 revealed that Mobinil topped the three mobile phone companies in Greater Cairo.

NTRA’s report was based on 27,800 trials for browsing the internet through the three telecommunications networks. Only four browsing trials were cut off, while no trial was blocked out.

Mobinil did not record any service cuts during internet browsing via its network out of a total of 9,700 trials. Vodafone came in second by conducting 9,100 browsing trials, two of which experienced cuts. Etisalat ranked last after two net cuts out of a total of 8,700 conducted trials.

For internet speed on mobile phones, NTRA’s report designated Etisalat as the fastest internet browsing; its average speed was recorded at 228kb per second  in Greater Cairo. Vodafone came second with average speeds of 154kb per second. Mobinil ranked last with an average speed of 134kb per second.

As for browsing speed, the three companies converged on the browsing speed index at a rate between 8.7 and 22kb per second.

For videos streaming quality online in Greater Cairo, Mobinil ranked first for the second month in a row, where only two trials were blocked out from watching online videos from a total of 4,800 trials. Vodafone fell to third rank in the report of December 2015 after it was in second place in November; 52 were block out and two were cut off from a total of 4,300 trials. Etisalat advanced to second place in December where 24 trials were blocked out from a total of 4,200 trials.
