Al-Ahly changes training ground, police force Ultras out

The Board of Directors of Al-Ahly SC declared that the club will change its training ground from the famous Mokhtar El-Tetsh stadium to one in 6th of October City, following Friday declarations by the Ultras Ahlawy that they would attend the club’s training on Sunday.

Ultras Ahlawy members declared Friday that they plan to attend the morning training on Sunday, which was scheduled for 10 am in preparation for the derby rival match against Al-Zamalek SC on Tuesday for round 17 of the Egyptian football league.

Thousands of Ultras Ahlawy fans gathered on Saturday in the early morning and tried to enter the Al-Ahly training ground, Mokhtar El-Tetsh, in violation of the board’s statements. Fans were banned from attending training after they attacked police and army figures on 31 January during commemorations of the Ultras Ahlawy members who died in the Port Said stadium on 1 February 2012.

Al-Ahly President Mahmoud Taher said the Board of Directors condemned the actions of the Ultras Ahlawy fans, and declared that they Ultras fans will not be allowed to gather in the club. The board said it would call on police authorities to stop fans from entering.

Al-Ahly will meet their rival Al-Zamalek SC at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, in round 17 of the Egyptian football league on Tuesday.

The Board of Directors called the police on Friday after Ultras Ahlawy fans announced they will attend the morning training. In response, more than 20 armoured police vehicles surrounded the club and hundreds of policemen secured the club perimeter and managed to control the situation.
