Nokia showcased its latest innovation at the UAE Drones for Good Award event in Dubai from 4-6 February. Nokia’s technology controls drone flight paths by using LTE technology, which guarantees safe operation of drones.
Nokia’s innovation allows drones to be monitored and controlled via LTE networks used by network operators, governments and public safety authorities
Joachim Wuilmet, head of Customer Marketing and Communications in Middle East and Africa, said Nokia’s LTE contribution will provide wide-ranging innovative telecommunication services, whether for this industry or others.
Nokia is working to discover more potential uses for drones. In July 2015, it used ‘telco drones’ in the telecommunications sector in cooperation with Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (DU). The drones were also used for inspecting communications towers, broadcasting preparations, and testing line of sight between radio towers.
The use of drones is a recent yet widespread phenomenon, which many industrial sectors can use, such as healthcare, logistics, agriculture, news and entertainment. However, prudent management of the expansion of drone use is still a challenge facing governments and aviation authorities.
