Wadi Degla SC announced their contract with former Chelsea and Lyon superstar Florent Malouda, in a press conference Sunday.

Malouda has been signed by Wadi Degla on loan for six months until the end of the season.

Wadi Degla owner Maged Sami discussed the contract and the reasons for signing Malouda, saying they went for a top class experienced player to add value to the team from a technical standpoint.

Additionally, Sami highlighted that they wished to have a good role model for young players in the club, in order to learn how to play professionally from him. He further highlighted that Wadi Degla was the first Egyptian club to be transformed into a professional sports company, and the first Egyptian club to receive a professional licence from the Egyptian Football Federation .

Wadi Degla CEO Hassan El-Mestkawey also spoke about the contribution that Malouda’s signing can bring to the club, particularly the former UEFA Champions League winner’s technical abilities. He further pointed to Malouda’s ability to lead the squad to greater success.

Regarding the security situation in Egypt and the message Malouda would like to send to fellow international football players and professionals, he responded saying: “I do not mix politics with football. I am very happy to be in Egypt, and the conditions are very stable. I was happy with the warm welcome [I received] from the people”.

Further, regarding his opinion of young Egyptian players, he said: “I was surprised that they are so skilled and talented. They just need a professional atmosphere for growth, and they will be all superstars like Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny and Mido, who achieved perfect success in Europe”.
