The European Union (EU) is considering easing shipping regulations that it imposed on Egyptian products imported to European markets after the downing of the Russian commercial aircraft in Sinai last October.

James Moran, head of the EU delegation in Egypt, said Egypt is the EU’s most important trade partner in the Middle East.

EU member countries increased regulatory measures on Egyptian exports to EU countries, and some countries have limited air cargo transfers to designated cargo planes.

During the conference to announce the implementation of the Trade and Domestic Market Enhancement Programme, Moran stated that Egyptian exports to EU countries rose to 11% in the past year and the size of EU investment in Egypt rose by 4% in 2015.

Moran stated that EU and Egyptian authorities are discussing specifications standards for exported products to facilitate trade between the regions.

Within the framework of the programme the European Union will provide Egypt with technical assistance in foreign trade and will strengthen the capabilities of the Egyptian industrial sector.
