The supreme tripartite committee between the Egyptian, Sudanese, and Ethiopian ministers will meet on the sidelines of the African investment forum on 20 and 21 February.
Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry said Friday that he held discussions in Munich with his Ethiopian counterpart, Tedros Adhanom, in preparation for the summit, according to a statement released by the ministry of foreign affairs.
Both ministers discussed the latest developments of the Grand Ethiopia Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the outcome of the recent meeting in Khartoum between the three countries’ ministers of irrigation.
The Egyptian, Ethiopian, and Sudanese irrigation ministers met in Khartoum Wednesday with representatives of the two French companies set to conduct studies on the impact of GERD.
The two French companies, Artelia and BRL, presented the conclusion of the three-day discussions with the three countries’ technical committees on the study, which will identify the GERD’s impact on the water shares of Egypt and Sudan.
Egyptian minister of irrigation Hossam El-Moghazy said the negotiations between the three countries in Khartoum were “positive”. The three countries requested more information from the two French companies regarding technical issues, according to a statement released by El-Moghazy.
They agreed in the talks to support the studies to be carried out by the two companies on the impact of the dam on the water shares of both Egypt and Sudan. The two companies presented the financial offer, which will be reviewed by the three countries.
The 10th meeting of the national tripartite committee started on 7 February in Khartoum with a meeting of technical experts and ended Friday with the meeting between the three irrigation ministers.
